DIY Weatherization Tips

Weatherizing your home is an easy, cost effective way to keep the cold out & the warm air inside your home. 

Your home stays warmer and you use less energy, saving you money on your energy bills!

Plus it's better for the planet 🌍 and helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

To weatherize your home against the cold outside, you need "air sealing" to stop cold air coming in through gaps & cracks in your home and "insulation" to keep the heat inside your home.

Here are just a few things you can do to weatherize your home:

Weatherize outlets & light switches (on exterior walls)

Outlet sealers

Easiest to install, check for correct size


Caulk

Use painter’s caulk to seal the electric box to the dry-wall

Spray foam

With outlet removed & power off, dab spray foam in the holes in back of the box

Weatherize doors & windows

Add Weather-stripping

Add door sweeps

Add storm doors

Weatherize attic access hatch

Seal around hatch

Add board insulation

Add batt insulation
